MicroGDS 2010 in Retail
Introduction
Based on core MicroGDS technology, and taking advantage of the powerful SQL database, Informatix customers who’s key business marketplace is Retail have adapted the power and flexibility of the kernel application suite to deliver key strategic functionality to their businesses.
In this instance the disciplines that are encompassed within this strategic functionality include Store Layout Planning, Store Maintenance, Space Utilisation, Shop-Fitting, Health & Safety, Stock Requirement Planning, Supply Chain, and Sales Management Reporting.
Operational functionality narrative:
Architectural Plans for new Stores are created in MicroGDS, whilst plans for acquired or leased properties are transferred into the MicroGDS drawing database after translation from their third party format e.g. DWG or from an industry neutral format such as DXF.
The drawings are consolidated in the drawings database and nominally referenced by a store number/floor number tag.
The drawings are issued to the local Store Management teams where an “As-Built” to “As-Planned” audit is conducted, and any discrepancies flagged using a locally implemented “Red-Lining” application.
MicroGDS created objects, of their corporately standardised display and railing ranges, are then used to complete full shop-fitting plans, and these plans are verified against Health and Safety requirements for all relevant industry compliances e.g. Width of walkways, Emergency exit numbers and placement etc.
This process is often re-iterated until the space utilisation percentages that are automatically calculated within MicroGDS meet the target levels that have been set for the particular store/floor combination.
The system will then automatically calculate “Railage” requirements, and through either a customised or common format (e.g. Excel) pass this merchandise order data into the Supply Chain System.
The ability of the MicroGDS SQL database to talk to other corporate databases (e.g. IBM DB2) allows actual Sales Statistics to be fed back to, and overlaid on to, each store/floor plan drawing giving local management an easily understood and highly visual “Hot” and “Cold” spot report on performance versus target achievements.
