AccuRender

On Windows, AccuRender 4.0 is able to generate EPix files ready for use by Piranesi.

After a rendering is complete, select the File > Save rendered image as command on the AccuRender menu. Choose the Piranesi EPix image(.epx) format.

Notes:
a) Three point perspective is supported, but not two point perspective.
b) The Piranesi interface is available in the full AccuRender 4 product only.

ArchiCAD

Piranesi support is included in Archicad 8.0 R3 and later on Windows, and from Archicad 9.0 on Mac.

To save in EPix format, ArchiCAD saves a rendering, rather than the 3D window, so the PhotoRendering Settings need to be reviewed first.

In the PhotoRendering Settings dialog, Size & Background, set the Resulting Image size to the final resolution you need, for example 3000x2300 pixels. Other rendering options may be useful, such as anti-aliasing. Then from perspective view, choose Save As, Piranesi EPix and click Render.

Architectural Desktop

You can render directly from Architectural Desktop into a Piranesi format file, by downloading a plug-in developed by Informatix and Autodesk.

Art*lantis

Art*lantis R versions 1.0.2 and later come complete with Piranesi support.

In Art*lantis R, use Inspector > Render and select Piranesi as the 'Save as type' or Format.

Click on Options and choose the width and height for your EPix file, and any other settings.

Then use Render Now. This will create an EPix file that you can open in Piranesi.

Autocad

Autocad users can use Piranesi by exporting to 3DS format, and then using Vedute to render the model in EPix format. Vedute will also accept DXF files, but some 3D geometry types will be lost in the process.

3DS output is no longer available in AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD 2008, but Autodesk has released a 3DSOUT utility.

For plan and elevation working you can use File > Plot > publishtowebPNG to generate a PNG raster file. In Piranesi use File > New > Create an EPix file from an image file.

Autodesk Building Systems

You can render directly from Autodesk Building Systems into a Piranesi format file, by downloading a plug-in developed by Informatix and Autodesk.

Autodesk Civil 3D

You can render directly from Autodesk Civil 3D into a Piranesi format file, by downloading a plug-in developed by Informatix and Autodesk. The plug-in is supported by Autodesk Civil 3D 2006 but not 2007.

Cheetah3D

Cheetah3D version 3.0 for Mac OS X is able to generate EPix files ready for use by Piranesi. Before rendering, go to Render Preferences and check cache EPIX box. When rendered to your satisfaction save image normally with a .epx extension.

You can download a tutorial on using Cheetah3D with Piranesi from the Cheetah3D website.

Cinema 4D

Informatix supplies a plug-in for Cinema 4D versions R10.5. The download contains all the files you need for Windows (32-bit and 64-bit versions) and Mac OS X.

Bentley Microstation

Bentley MicroStation 8
MicroStation 8 (since v08.02.20.00) and later can produce Piranesi format images and panoramas through Utilities > Image > Save and Utilities > Image > Save Panorama.

For more information about generating EPIX files using MicroStation/J (7.1), see the Piranesi FAQ.

MicroGDS

MicroGDS versions 5.2 and later come complete with Piranesi support. Versions 7.1 and later can produce Epix Panoramas. Use the File > Window > Export command.

NavisWorks

NavisWorks 1.3 and later comes complete with Piranesi support. Use File > Export > Piranesi EPix...

SketchUp

In SketchUp 5 or 6 Pro, use File > Export > 2D Graphic and select Piranesi EPix from the dropdown list. Use the Options box to choose image size and texture export if desired.

If you are using Piranesi 4 with SketchUp 5 components, you will need to apply the Piranesi 4.0.2 upgrade.

From Sketchup version 5, Piranesi support is only included in the Pro version; the free Google SketchUp does not support Piranesi.

VectorWorks and RenderWorks

To export to Piranesi from RenderWorks 11 or later, use File > Export > Export EPix/Piranesi.

In earlier versions, you can export data into DXF format. Use View > Standard Views > Top Plan, and then File > Export > Export DXF/DWG. Then use Vedute to render the model in EPix format.

Vedute

The Vedute viewer is supplied with all versions of Piranesi on both Windows and Mac. It can produce Piranesi EPix and EPix panorama images from DXF and AutoCAD .3DS files.
